Welcome to the Skin Cancer Society of Australia

Skin Cancer Practice Accreditation will soon be available in Australia and patients will be able to access a list of doctors who have attained this high standard of practice. The RACGP has recently  announced the commencement of the pilot trial of the accreditation process in conjunction with the SCSA and AGPAL and this will hopefully be completed soon.

Media Announcement:

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is keen to announce the piloting of a set of standards for skin cancer services. The RACGP is working with the Skin Cancer Society of Australia (SCSA), Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) and other key stakeholders to test these standards in a small number of representative practices across the nation.

“We are working together with our partners at AGPAL and SCSA to determine whether these standards are appropriate and feasible for use in any primary care clinic providing skin cancer services, both in general practice and skin cancer clinics", said RACGP President Dr Vasantha Preetham.

It is anticipated that the SCCA will become a sub-faculty of the soon to be formed RACGP “Faculty of Specific Interest GPs” later in the year, and we look forward to continuing a close working relationship with the RACGP. Accreditation of skin cancer practices will begin shortly following the recently announced trial of 12 practices, in conjunction with AGPAL.

The Australasian College of Skin Cancer Medicine, (ACSCM), is another skin cancer group who appear to have goals and aspirations very similar to the SCSA. Although formed more recently than the SCSA, they have a well structured training programme, with a particular focus on skin surgical training. The SCSA is keen to work with the ACSCM in the future to provide high quality educational initiatives for Australian and New Zealand GPs.
